Learning and Wellbeing

Learning Approach

A Holistic Approach to Learning. Our learning program supports each child’s academic and personal growth.

At Saint Spyridon College we believe that learning should nurture the whole child – intellectually, spiritually, emotionally and socially. Our approach is personalised, allowing each student to grow at their own pace, with the support of dedicated teachers who know them well.

Academic Foundations

We follow the Australian Curriculum with a strong focus on literacy, numeracy, and inquiry-based learning. Small class sizes mean our teachers can tailor lessons to suit individual strengths and needs, helping students to thrive academically while fostering curiosity and creativity.

Greek Language and Culture

In addition to core subjects, students learn Modern Greek and explore Hellenic culture through storytelling, history, music, art, and traditional celebrations. This deepens their connection to identity, family, and community while building strong communication skills.

Faith in Daily Life

Orthodox Christian values are woven through daily learning. Students participate in prayer, feast day celebrations, and faith-based reflections, helping them develop a moral compass, compassion, and spiritual resilience.

Wellbeing and Emotional Growth

At Saint Spyridon College, student wellbeing is at the heart of school life. Our small class sizes and strong pastoral care support each child’s growth in resilience, relationships, and faith. Emotional wellbeing is central to everything we do. Our nurturing environment helps students feel safe, supported, and confident. We teach emotional literacy, kindness, resilience, and conflict resolution through programs and day-to-day conversations.

Social Development and Belonging

Every child is known and valued in our close-knit school community. Mixed-age activities, buddy programs, and community events help build friendships, social confidence, and a strong sense of belonging.

Creative Expression

Through music, drama, art, and dance — including traditional Greek celebrations, an annual school musical, and our school choir — students are encouraged to explore their creativity and develop confidence in expressing themselves.

Active Bodies, Healthy Minds

Physical education, daily movement, and outdoor play support our students’ physical health, teamwork skills, and mental wellbeing. We also encourage participation in traditional Greek dance and other cultural activities that promote physical expression.

Personalised Support

We recognise that each child learns differently. Our teachers work closely with families to support individual learning needs, whether a student requires extra help, enrichment opportunities, or simply encouragement to shine in their own way.

Partnership with Families

We see parents and caregivers as vital partners in the education journey. Open communication, regular updates, and community events help strengthen the bond between home and school.

Student Leadership

At Saint Spyridon College, we believe every student has the potential to lead with purpose and compassion.

Leadership is nurtured through responsibility, service, and faith-based action — from running school assemblies and helping at events, to supporting community initiatives. Students are encouraged to lead by example, developing confidence, teamwork, and a heart for service.

Our Student Representative Council (SRC) provides students with a voice and the opportunity to represent their peers, contribute to school decisions, and model our College values.
